Poker is one of the most exciting games. At the same time, poker also has many rules, some of which are complicated. Poker is played with different betting systems. In some poker variations, you are allowed to bet only a particular fixed amount. Other variations, however, allow you to bet all your money at once. The most common betting systems are no-limit and pot-limit.

No-limit poker rules state that a player is permitted to bet all of the chips that are in front of him as soon as his turn comes. Unlike in the movies where players throw car keys on the pot, no-limit poker rules does not tolerate anything else to be bet aside from the money you have on the table when the hand started. Presently, poker employs a rule known as table stakes. Table stakes states that you are not allowed to bet anything else than the money you have on the table.

Having mentioned this, no-limit betting actually has a limit to the betting that take place during the game. Nevertheless, keep in mind that no-limit poker is not really a potential danger to your bankroll, because betting is very much dependent on what stakes you play.

Pot-limit poker rules state that the amount that you bet is limited by the size if the pot. A player can actually increase his bet up to the amount indicated in the pot after he calls the previous bet. Pot-limit poker rules are really more complicated. With adequate experience, you can play around with this system in order to master the pot bet. Like no-limit poker, pot-limit poker is not really a hazard to your bankroll that you have to worry about. You just have to understand the game in order to succeed. Even if there is a limit to the size of the pot, pot-limit poker betting is definitely not smaller than no-limit betting, since most bets in no-limit poker are usually the size of the pot or even smaller.

H.A is another variant and interesting form of mixed game poker. In some poker rooms, they refer to it as the “half an half” poker. In this game, players challenge each other in two different kinds of poker, namely Texas Hold’em and the Omaha High. There may be tons of players that excels greatly in Texas Hold’em and an equal number of players who excels in Omaha High on the other hand. But the question is this: can you be the player who excels in both? Sure it is no easy feat, but this only proves and show the skills of any players.

A game of HA begins with a round of Hold’em to be followed by a round of Omaha and will continue as such in alternating rounds. There can be as many rounds of the game depending on the numbers of the players on the table. For example, if there are 8 players in the table, it means that there will be 8 games of each to be played. Talk about long hours!

Most players, in order to ensure their victory over the other players, try to learn their opponent’s weaker suit. After finding this out, the player can now put into action their strategy. Even though the two games may be similar most of the time, there are naturally some differences and it is up to the player to be quick to change to another form of thinking (or strategy) asked by the game.

HORSE is just one form of a mixed poker game, a collection of the most popular poker games there is. The key to winning a game of HORSE is simple: a player must be skilled not only with one but all of the different rules available in a game of HORSE. HORSE is just an acronym for:

Hold’em

Omaha

Razz

Seven Card Stud

Eight or Better (Stud High/Low)

One must wonder though how it is possible to play five different poker variations. Well, a certain rotation is being followed and poker variations will change whenever the dealer ends a full round. Others use the pre-set time. For example, allotting an hour to Holdem, another to Omaha and so forth.

This game of course are played by players who believed that they are skilled enough with the ins and outs of the five poker variations. It is a real challenge for any poker player not only to excel in each round but also to win what is at stake. HORSE follow the same traditional rules so, players can still use the same strategy they usually use in each game.

The simplest strategy a player can find useful in a HORSE game is to play with their strengths. They may play as aggressive as they want in games that they normally excel at and may play passively in games that they do not think they are great at. Players have their strong and weak games so it is imperative that they must learn how to utilize these differences in order to put the odds in your advantage. A good thing to remember though is if the player intends to do this game in a long run, they need to learn to change into every poker variation game. If you can be the type of player who don’t get disturb each time a new round starts, then that could be an advantage on your part.

Until the 2004 World Series of Poker, Razz was not very popular to many poker game players. Today though, it is now gaining popularity especially among high-stakes poker players and because simply it can be a lot of fun game to play. In a way, Razz is the same as Seven-card stud with the one crucial difference: lowest hand wins.

Things to remember before starting a game of Razz:

* The Ace is the lowest card and the King as the leader

* Straight and Flush does not count.

* There is no restriction for a qualifying hand. Players must simply develop the lowest possible hand to win.

The lowest possible hand in Razz would be A2345. It is often played with a fixed limit betting structure although there might be some occasion when one can stumble a no limit or pot limit game. Fixed limit means that no player may bet more or less that what is at stake.

In a game of Razz, there are five rounds of betting with the first and second rounds have bets leveling to the low-end stakes. The last three betting rounds must have bets and raises equal to high-end stakes. Unlike Texas Holdem, Razz do not require blind bets instead it uses Ante bet and Bring-In. Betting options are explained below:

*Ante is a small bet placed by all players prior to the distribution of the card usually 10-25% the low bet.

*Bring-In is placed by the highest door card (the sole card facing up after the initial deal). It is a forced bet half the small bet. For instance, in a $2-$4 game, bring-in would be $1.

Game will begins with a small ante placed by all players to create the pot. Each player is dealt three cards, two of which are facing down. The bring-in bet is placed by the worst third street (card dealt face up). Players now have the choice to bring in bet or raise the bet to the full amount. The fourth card is now given to the rest of the players. The best hand opens the round of bets. The fifth and sixth cards will be received face up and one final hole card with betting allowed after each. The lowest five-card hand wins the pot.

A variation of poker, Heads-up is for those players who longs for a fast and intensive play actions. Only two players compete against each other often believed as the ultimate poker duel. With its increasing popularity, many online sites now offer Heads-up tournaments for playing looking for some intense action in their games.

Even if the game started with a high number of players, eventually these players will be lost until there are only two players left for a heads-up. But this is quite different from the rest of tournament, requiring an altogether different attitude. When you hear other people saying that this is a fast-paced game with sometimes little or no time to think, they are right. Players who intend to go for a heads-up must mostly rely on quick thinking to pull them through.

As for strategy, the best a player could ever adopt is to be aggressive. It is a mean game of winner-takes-all situation that if you are not determined and does not show any sign of aggressiveness, your opponent will surely get you that you won’t even realize what’s gotten into you.

Some helpful tips in heads-up:

* For many players, position is everything. Actions done after every flop, turn and river can be an advantage because in this way, players can see what his opponent is doing and based from that opponents moves, one can now act their next move.

* Reading your opponent can be a vital piece of information. A player must know when their opponent has the hand, when they are bluffing or when they are going to draw. A player must work out as fast as they can in their head if their opponent is going to raise, check or call your bet. Of course, this may not always be precise but having an idea when your opponent is going to act is a must if a player wants to succeed in heads-up poker.

* Sometimes it is better to fold than winning a hand due to the fact that there are players who win small pots and also loses big pots. A player must know when they don’t have a winning hand than just keep going on thereby sacrificing too many chips in the pot. It is actually one skill that many poker players overlook.

* Bluffing. Admit it, most of the time the two matching opponents won’t always have a good hand but the player who bluffs the most almost always wins. Look for opportunities where you can bluff your opponent out of the pot but make sure that it is worth it.

Many players deem this variation as the “crazy” version of the Texas Holdem hence the name. The game is played between three to twenty players at a time with players starting with three in their hand. Participants are to discard one of their hole cards after the second round of betting.

The game begins with the two players at the left of the dealer with a small and large blind. The rest follow with their antes. Three hole cards are then dealt to each player. A round of betting starts after the cards have been dealt and it will be based on the cards of each player.

When the first betting round is completed, the dealer will now turn over three cards known as the flop. Players of Crazy Pineapple must remember that they must discard one of their three hole card. This stage of the game is critical hence they should plan their decisions wisely. Analyze your cards and determine the value of the card that you will discard from your hand first before ever doing it. To some players, they just take out the least favorable card but this could be tricky too. So strategize.

Second betting round follows beginning with the player sitting two seats to the left of the dealer. After which the dealer gives another round of community card called the “turn”. Third round of betting starts with the player sitting three seats to the left of the dealer. The dealer will now give the final round of community cards to all players called the “river”.

Final round of betting ensues starting with the player sitting four seats to the left of the dealer. The showdown now begins with players revealing their cards. Players that has not folded during the betting rounds may reveal their cards and declare their hand. They may use any combination of their two hole cards and the five community cards from the board to form their best hand. The player with the best five-card hand wins the pot.

Pineapple can be played as a high and low game.

If you know how to play Texas Holdem, then surely Omaha will be just a breeze for you. Omaha share the same concept as Texas Holdem, the only difference though is that you get four hole cards instead of just two. And when it’s showdown time for a five-card, players need to use exactly two of their hole cards and the other three from the community cards in the board.

The dealer gives each player five community cards (to be used to make their hand) after receiving the first four face-down cards.

The order of the betting and playing in Omaha works in this order:

1) Big and small blinds are placed in order for the pot to start. The player at the left of the dealer puts the small blind into the pot first. In pot limit and no pot limit, the small blind is equal to the small stake and the big blind to the large stake.

2) Players are dealt with four hole cards.

3) Betting round begins. Player sitting to the left of the big blind starts.

4) After the first betting round, three community cards will be dealt all facing up.

5) Second betting (called flop) round follows, beginning at the left of the small blind.

6) After the flop is completed, another community card is dealt.

7) Third betting round called turn ensues starting with the player in the small blind.

8) The final community card will be dealt after the turn has been completed.

9) The fourth and final betting round will follow beginning with the player in the small blind. This betting round is often referred to as the “river”.

10) After all the betting has been completed and community cards dealt, showdown will start. Remaining players must compare their five-card hand with the pot goes to the highest ranking hand.

In poker, the term hold’em not only pertains to the popular Texas Hold’Em game that a lot of us have been introduced to, thanks to televised poker games and various scriptwriters who have managed to somehow include Texas Hold’Em in their movie plotlines. There is another game with the term attached to it: the Omaha Hold’Em. This is not its known name, however; the classic Omaha Hold’Em game is known either as the Omaha Hi, or simply, the Omaha.

The Omaha Hi is a game similar to Texas Hold’Em in that it is a community game – five community cards are dealt to the players, available for everyone to use. It is much stricter than the Texas Hold’Em though, because in Texas Hold’Em, you are dealt two hole cards to be used with any of the five community cards dealt to your table in order to be able to form a hand; whereas in the Omaha Hi, you are dealt four hole cards and you are required to use exactly two of those cards with exactly three of the community cards in order to come up with the best possible hand you can come up with. This is why the Omaha is not a recommended game for beginners who are not yet used to the various techniques and playing strategies applied in poker games in general.

The betting process in Omaha Hi is the same as the process in the Texas Hold’Em poker game, and the same rule applies: at the end of the game, the one with the highest hand wins. However, achieving certain hands are difficult because of the fact that there are times when the community cards already have four of the five you need to play a hand, and your hole cards has that one card you need, and yet you cannot just play that hand if you do not have another of the kind you need for that hand, because you only need exactly three from the table and two from your hole cards. If you want that extra challenge in games then you migh think about playing the Omaha Hi.

Texas Hold’Em is currently the most popular form of poker there is in the gambling world. This is because it tests the skills of the players involved, as well as provides enough excitement and adrenaline rush to those who are playing . Because of the intese strategizing that is required of players in this particular type of poker, the Texas Hold’Em is a very popular choice to use in the different poker tournaments around the world.

These poker tournaments feature only the best players in the poker world, and given their enormous skill in beating the game (and their opponents) comes their enormous bank accounts as well. That is why these Texas Hold’Em tournaments are often played with the no-limit system of betting. Indeed, most of the televised poker games that you may have watched on television at one point in your life are no-limit Texas hold’em games. This way of playing Texas hold’em is not recommended for beginners, because it requires intense capabilities to read and analyze people’s actions, facial expressions, and decisions. The usual methods of card memorization do not apply to this game, however, as the up cards that are dealt are common property. This is why bluffing effectively is important in raising the pot when you have a really good hand going for you, and and it is also important in stopping the other players on the table from reading your body language and determining what hand it is that you have.

Aside from possessing the skill to be able to read and interpret a person’s body language effectively, a player also needs to understand that positioning is a very important factor in ensuring one’s victory in the NL Texas Hold’Em game. Because a lot of the wisest decisions you could make on the table rely on your effective reading of your opponents, being seated where you will be one of the players to take their turn late in a round of betting gives you that time you need. A player needs to play up this chance because once the button moves, and that player gets closer to the player under the gun, then this time frame for observation goes smaller, and so strategizing wisely is a very important thing to remember with regards to positioning and the time to observe that comes with it.

The main thing to remember if you are one of those who qualify for one of these high-stakes games is that you have to know when to play and when to fold. This is the main reason the no-limit Texas hold’em poker game is not suitable for starters: One’s decision-making is put to the test, and casual gamers might just be throwing their resources away. Still, even if you do not get to play this game, it is one of the most fascinating poker games you will ever get to watch.

These forms follow the traditional rules and conventions more or less, and one particular rule stands out from this particular group: the one with the highest hand wins. Even in the hi-lo games, where it seems to divert a bit from the status quo of highest hand wins (the diversion being that the pot is shared by the one with the highest hand – which is traditional – and the one with the lowest hand – which is the diversion), the element of tradition still remains. But like most things, this game has an unconventional version to it.

Lowball, or low poker, is the unconventional member of the poker family in that instead of having the highest hand rewarded, the dealer rewards the lowest hand instead. That makes the name quite self-explanatory. Given this mechanic, the objective of the players change a little: they still aim to get the best hand that they can make out of the cards that they have, but the definition of best changes in that instead of considering the high hand to be the best, the lowest hand one can come up with is considered the best for a particular gameplay.

Lowball games have four methods to them, and under these methods are many examples of different versions of lowball. The variations are as follows: First, the ace-to-five-low, wherein the lowest possible hand is the wheel, or a 5-4-3-2-A combination. This method is the most commonly used method of lowball, and in this method the flushes and the straights are not considered in the game. The ace also is a low card in this method. The second method is the ace-to-six low method. In this method, and in the previous one as well, pairs and trips are considered a negative to have in one’s hand, and the lowest possible combination is the 6-4-3-2-A combination. In both the first two methods the ace plays a low card. The third combination is the deuce-to-seven-low, and as the name suggests, the lowest combination required is 7-5-4-3-2. In this game, the aces are considered high cards, and so the lowest rank is 2. It is also known as seven-five, and this name is obviously derived from the first two numbers of the lowest possible combination. It is also known as the Kansas City lowball. The final method is not used very often – in fact, it is rarely used. This is the deuce-to-six-low, wherein the lowest combination possible is 6-5-4-3-2. As with the previous method, aces are considered high cards. In all the methods the flushes and the straights are not regarded.
If you want a twist to your traditional poker game, then you should definitely try playing lowball games. However, do take note that some of the rules change with this game, and so it is important to check the specific rules of that particular lowball game you are playing and not to confuse that with the rules of traditional poker games.
