Seven-Card Stud Hi Games
The seven-card stud poker games can be played in two ways: first, as the traditional game where the player with the highest hand wins the round; and second, as a modified hi-lo game, where at the end of a game, the players with the highest and the lowest hands win the pot money as long as they qualify for the requirements of having a high hand and having a low hand. What will be discussed right now is the traditional, seven-card stud hi game.
The traditional seven-card stud hi game has been around for quite a long time and is considered to be one of the very basic poker games out there. The goal is to win the highest possible pot by playing the highest possible hand you can come up with in your set of cards dealt to you by the dealer. The game starts by placing the ante, and then the dealer places a white chip called the button in front of the player to his immediate left. If following the system with blinds, then the one seated to this person’s immediate left is the small blind, and the one seated to the immediate left of the small blind is the big blind, and these two pay a mandatory bet that is given before the first three cards are dealt. For every round finished, the chip travels around the table so that everyone takes turns in paying the enforced bet. If this is not followed in a game, but a bring-in is followed in its stead, then the person with the lowest ranking card gives the bring-in before the first cards are dealt to each player. Each person is then dealt two hole cards and a door card, which is basically just one card facing up and one facing down. A betting round ensues, beginning with the player to the immediate left of the big blind and ending with the big blind himself. Three more up cards are dealt simultaneously, and the betting proceeds but begins with the small blind and ends with the button, and a final hole card is dealt and a final betting round ensues. At the showdown, the person who can make the highest hand using five out of his seven cards wins the game.
In this game only one wins the pot, unless the result at the end is even. In that case, then the deciding factor will be which player has the highest ranking card which was not used for the hand. As mentioned, this is the very basic seven-card stud game, and you will see its simplicity here.
